Sigvaris Access Just Got More Accessible!

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

We’ve just lowered the price on Sigvaris Access support knee-highs and pantyhose.  The knee-highs have dropped $1.00 per pair to $30.77 and the pantyhose have been reduced by $6.00 to $52.22.

Access is available in two compression levels, 20-30mmhg and 30-40mmHg. The knee highs and pantyhose have an optional open or closed toe. Thigh highs are open toe only.  All Access stockings are available in short and long lengths.

Support knee highs for men are ribbed and black. Women’s knee highs, along with the rest of the Access line, has a smooth finish and is available in crispa (beige).

Access also features a new color-thread size indicator that’s sewn into the top band of the stocking. So in six months when it’s time to reorder, with a glance you will know what size and compression to purchase, unlike heat transfers that disappear after a couple of washings.

Access replaces the Sigvaris Value Care line of support stockings and is latex free.

Improve Your Golf Game With Compression Socks

Monday, April 12th, 2010

SIGVARIS has become the exclusive supplier of graduated compression socks and stockings to LPGA’s Brittany Lincicome.  SIGVARIS and Brittany will collaborate on educating the golf community (golf professionals and recreational golfers) on all the benefits of graduated compression socks, both on and off the golf course. SIGVARIS offers both medical compression socks and stockings as well as life-style compression socks like their Athletic Recovery Sock for sports, travel and professions requiring prolonged sitting or standing.

“I was unaware of the differences that a graduated compression sock could make in my performance, but my recovery is quicker from my workouts and that allows me to focus on my golf game. SIGVARIS graduated compression socks work wonderfully and make my legs feel energized and lighter,” says Brittany Lincicome.

SIGVARIS recently wrapped up a golf trial involving graduated compression socks and their effect on golfers when used during an 18-hole golf round. An impressive 94% of the test-golfers (n=36) said they would recommend the SIGVARIS Compression Golf Socks to their fellow golfers and colleagues.

Wearing compression during and after strenuous exercise or competition may help flush out lactic acid and also provide symptomatic relief of delayed onset leg muscle soreness. Graduated compression socks can also be worn to help support, by stimulating blood circulation, recovery from sports injuries. Graduated compression stockings should always be worn for longer air-travel to prevent blood stasis, and if cleared by a physician, during pregnancy to relieve swollen ankles and leg edema.

In addition, support knee highs and thigh highs in natural and suntan now have an open toe option.  Sandals and flip flops now welcome.

If you’re used to thigh highs slipping down, or worse thigh bulge, try the EverSheer thigh high.  The patented Sensinov silicone band is imported from France.  It provides superior holding power and eliminates thigh bulge, with less irritation than silicone bands or dots.

Compression therapy for athletes

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

A growing trend among competitive athletes is the use of compression socks to help improve performance.  Compression therapy is a hot topic in sports media right now as a growing number of triathletes, marathon runners, and professional sports athletes are trying compression socks to improve their performance. Whether it’s during the actual event, after the event, or even while traveling, athletes are making graduated compression socks part of their everyday attire.

A number of sock manufacturers are claiming to offer “compression” socks for athletic use.  Unfortunately, many of these so-called “compression” socks do not have true graduated compression.  Instead, they may feature a tight foot band, or vertical stripes, plus a wide variety of other useless features meant to imply foot or leg support.

We sell a variety of compression socks that give athletes real graduated compression.  The newest is the Sigvaris Athletic Recovery sock with 15-20mmHg of compression.   It’s the perfect combination of looks, graduated support, moisture management and odor control in a running sock.

The Sigvaris Athletic Recovery sock is available in styles for men and women and currently priced at $29.25.

Which donning glove is right for you?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Donning gloves are the easiest, cheapest and probably most effective tool available to help you put on your stockings. Donning gloves allow you to grip and pull on the sheerest of compression hosiery while helping to prevent snags, runs or poke holes. They also provide your fingers with a little extra leverage which can be very helpful for people with arthritis or difficulty with hand mobility.  We carry three brands of donning gloves; Jobst, Mediven and Sigvaris.   The Jobst donning glove is unique because it is actually a cotton mitt with the palm and fingers dipped in a latex solution to grip onto support hose.  It is a loose fitting glove which can be easier to put on for people with limited hand mobility.  On the downside, there are no ridges or nubs on the latex which limits it’s ability to move stockings up the leg.  We have heard from customers that this glove wears out too quickly. Comes in sizes small for women and medium for men.  $5.95

The Mediven donning glove currently has a 100% approval rating from customer feedback.  It looks like a basic latex dish washing glove but has textured fingers and palms for additional gripping power.  This will help you get the compression stocking over your foot and heal.  Then you can use your palms to slide the hose up your legs rather than pulling. Available in an orange color in sizes medium for women and large for men.  $3.95

The Sigvaris donning glove also currently has a 100% customer approval rating.  It also looks like a basic latex dish washing glove.  The ridges are very pronounced and the glove is durable.  Another bonus is that is available in small, medium, large and x-large.  We at Brightlife Direct usually try to stay neutral as we are confident in all of our products, but based on the feedback we hear from customers, the green Sigvaris donning glove is the leader in this pack.

Support socks for people with big feet…

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Men with a shoe size of 13+ and women with a shoe size of 11+ can have problems finding a compression stocking that doesn’t cramp their toes.  Open-toe stockings are always an option, but a lot of people prefer a closed toe.  There are support stockings out there for people with big feet.

For Men

1) Jobst for Men in size “Medium Tall” and “Large Tall” have a foot bed designed to fit a size 12+.  Available in 15-20, 20-30 and 30-40mmHg.  Color choices are limited.

2) Mediven Motion Sport socks in size XXL.

3) Josbt SensiFoot socks, 8-15mmHg in XL will fit up to a size 14 foot.

4) Allegro Cotton Swing 15-20mmhg, and Samba 20-25mmHg in size 5 will fit up to a size 14 foot.

For Women

One option is a man’s sock.  A lot of women buy men’s support socks for the extra foot room.  And for those occasions when a ribbed knee high just won’t do…

1) Sigvaris 120 sheer knee highs, 15-20mmHg.  Size C accommodates up to a size 12 foot.

2) Sigvaris 230 Cotton, 360 Cushioned Cotton, and 860 Select Comfort lines are available in a wide variety of sizes with a foot portion designed specifically for men and women.  Women with long feet should order the men’s stocking.

3) Mediven Sheer & Soft was specifically designed to accomodate today’s larger foot sizes.  Available in all compression levels and styles.

4) Allegro Cotton Swing and Samba (see above).
