Diabetics need socks that cushion the feet and prevent friction in the shoes so pressure ulcers and blisters can be avoided. Some diabetics can wear a very light level of compression that gently assists the veins and helps prevent blood pooling in the feet and lower legs. Regular socks aren't designed to do this. Diabetic socks are woven with either no compression or a very low level of compression that is non-constricting. They have an antimicrobial finish to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungus, include moisture wicking fibers to keep the feet dry, and have no seams or have flat smooth seams that don't irritate sensitive skin. Extra cushioning where it is needed helps prevent abrasions and friction. One of the more important considerations when wearing diabetic socks is to get accurate sizing for good fitting socks that won't droop. |
